2013 Street Carnaval Festival in Hai Phong

In the evening of 11th May, thousands of people attended the Hai Phong Carnaval Street Festival with the participation of many domestic and foreign art troupes.

The theme of the Festival

From 6.00 pm, all the ways directing to Hai Phong city center, where the Carnaval Street Festival took place, was crowded with people and tourists. It is the main event of the National Tourism Year of the Red River Delta - Hai Phong 2013 hosted by the port city of Hai Phong.

Exploiting the theme of the National Tourism Year 2013 - "Civilization of the Red River," the Carnaval program focused on highlighting the indigenous civilization values, crystallizing the bravery, tradition, characters, and lifestyle of Vietnamese people in general and residents of the Red River Delta in particular.

Activities in the Festival

The Carnaval had the participation of 23 parade teams, starting with a group of sports cars performed by the sports club of Hai Phong city. The delegation brought many colorful flags with the slogans: "Urban Year and Traffic Safety," "Social Security," "Red Flower Festival for the second time," "Hai Phong City welcomes the National Tourism Year Red River Delta - Hai Phong 2013," etc.

Dragon dance, a tradition of thousands of years of Vietnamese people' folklore, which are performed on holidays, festivals and important events of the year, also contributed to creating a joyful and vibrant atmosphere for the celebration.

The dancing group of Lac Hong residents recreated Lac Long Quan - Au Co legend so that every Vietnamese citizen could be proud of the breed of Dragon and Fairy.

Many unique and typical cultural festivals of the Red River Delta provinces had also been recreated such as Yen Tu (Quang Ninh), Keo pagoda (Thai Binh), Giong festival (Hanoi), Chu Dong Tu - Tien Dung (Hung Yen), Tay Thien (Vinh Phuc), Phu Day (Nam Dinh), Con Son - Kiep Bac (Hai Duong), Hoa Lu ancient capital (Ninh Binh), Tich Dien (Ha Nam), Lim festival (Bac Ninh), and Buffalo fighting festival (Hai Phong).

The Carnaval program also had the participation of 8 art groups from 7 countries of India, Cambodia, Laos, Kitakyushu (Japan), Vladivostok (Russia), Yunnan and Nanning (China).

The puppets depicting images of fairy tale characters performed by Hai Phong Puppet Art Group also created vibrant cultural colors for the festival. At the end of the parade was "Red Phoenix color" symbol of Hai Phong's land and people, carved into the minds of every person in the Port land and tourists once coming to this city.
