We signed up for a 12km trek through Y Liyn Ho, Lao Chai and TaVan through our hotel Sapa Eden. We were not prepared the difficulties to had to go through this "short 12km" (5hrs-6hrs!!). It felt like a "Iron Man Triathlon!!" Luckily, another traveler advised us to rent a rubber boots, bring raincoats as Aug is the rainy season in Sapa. A suggestion is also to bring along a slipper so for the drier and flatter grounds, can change out from the uncomfortable rubber boots.

This trek is not suitable for elderly, those with weak knees and faint hearted. No doubt the scenery were breathtatking, it was quite a dangerous trek, esp when it's raining (3 of us in our 30s slipped and slided our way through mud and steep slopes) We saw other travelers struggled, crawled on fours and some injured and others cried. To be fair, it's probably alot easier if it wasn't the rainy season. But I feel a need to share my experience with traveler considering this trek to be mentally prepared (as I wasn't...and I consider myself fairly gung ho, outdoorsy type).
The pictures I took from this trek were postcard perfect. Is it worth it?? Yes it is. Will I do it again?? Yes, only in dry season. And I will bring some plaster/antiseptic cream in case of injury.

As part of our annual vacation in Vietnam we went trekking for a few days in Sapa, in the north of the country. We used Trekking Sapa as they had been recommended to us. We are so glad that we listened to the advice. This is an amazing part of the world, Sapa town is terrific and the trekking so simply wonderful. We spent three days trekking in some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable, had a home-stay with wonderful local people and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Trekking Sapa, organised everything, their guides were great and everything went smoothly.
Some of the views were obscured at times but enough of the negatives as they were well outweighed by the fantastic scenery and the fascinating insight into a totally different culture. We were there for 4 days, 3 nights and the town has the feel of a ski resort without the snow.
